When you are planning and visualising what your website should look like, there are 5 key types of photographs that you will need.
But why should you use photographs?
You need to grab the attention of your website visitor fast, and photos are processed significantly faster than having to read text.
But you only have 6 seconds to grab their attention!
Many businesses use stock images though, and there are a couple of problems with this. One is that another business could also use the same images, and that could potentially be your nearest competitor.
The other is that it doesn't show your ideal customer the true face and story of your business.
So let's have a look at the 5 different types of delicious photographs that you need for your website.
1. Large Website Header Image
Be an attention grabber: have the first thing a visitor to your website sees is a beautiful, and stunning high quality photograph, that is completely on brand, and make them instantly want to try your food.
Show off your amazing restaurant, your signature dish or your artisan range of products.
Let them admire your wonderful business and make them want to eat your food or enjoy your drink.
2. Headshots
Have high quality headshots. After the home page, the about me/us page is quite often the second most popular page on your website.
People want to know who is making their food and the story behind the passion for your business.
If it's just you, then you will need to show the face behind the business. Make sure you have a high quality professional headshot of you looking directly at the camera, so that you start to build that connection with your prospective customer.
But if you have a team, create a wonderful team page as your about us section. Besides the shot looking at camera, you can also be more creative with some more fun shots, telling a bit more of your story. Increasing the amount of different images people see of you and your team, the more that they feel they are getting to know you.
And don't forget that all important smile!
Here are a couple of example about me/team pages.
I'm a multiple award winning photographer with the Guild of Photographers in their Image of the Month competition.
I've been a finalist 6 times at the Essex Wedding Awards, and I've been shortlisted 3 times for the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year.
I was delighted to be only the second person to qualify for the Guild of Professional Photographers Business Qualification. I have also gone on to achieve Qualified Status of the Guild with my food photography, and I'm now allowed to use the letters GPPBQ and QGPP after my name.
My mission is to create stunning, vibrant food photography that makes your customers hungry for your food.
